Health Benefits of Pumpkin

Its that time of year again. While pumpkins are fun to carve, many people don’t realize just how many health benefits are derived from eating pumpkin.

Carotenoids- Pumpkins are high in carotenoids, which help to ward off free radical damage in the body, prevent premature aging, cardiovascular disease, and infections.
Protein-Pumpkin seeds contain 7g of protein and polysterols, which aid in reducing cholesterol levels.
Essential Fatty Acids- Pumpkins are rich in essential fatty acids, which protect against high blood pressure, arthritis, and cancer. They also promote healthy skin and improve brain power.
Vitamin A- Regular consumption of both pumpkin seeds and flesh can help promote the health of your eyes and boost immune function tremendously.
Vitamin C- In addition to fighting free radical damage, Vitamin C is important in cancer prevention.
Potassium and Zinc- Potassium plays an important role in preventing cardiovascular disease, while zinc boosts the immune system and provides reproductive support.

Healthy Pumpkin Smoothie

1 banana, frozen
1 cup vanilla almond milk
1 cup of pumpkin, grated
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teasponn all spice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
freshly ground pumpkin seeds
Agave nectar, stevia, or raw honey to taste

Combine in a high powered blender until creamy.
