<itunes:summary>What a blast it is to get together with people who have similar challenges, similar experiences, and similar goals. I find it helpful to compare notes and learn from such people. That’s one of the benefit of networking groups. With so many people trying to advance in their careers and advance their businesses, networking groups can be as much social as they are professional. In a lot of ways, they’ve replaced the clubs of days gone by.
It appears to me that women utilize such organizations very effectively. Even though women have been a mainstay in the business world for a few decades, many feel like they are playing in a male arena so they seek support from other women. Women often face different challenges in business because they generally are the main caregivers at home–yet another reason to seek support from other women.
So, why not devote an entire Cucina Chatter Radio show to women in business? Three very successful, highly-motivated women join me in studio to discuss the many challenges, advantages, and accomplishments of women in business. Melody McHugh is the director of Comfort Keepers, an in-home care service for seniors and the infirm, and a member of the Board of Advisors for the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. Cheyenne Palma is the President of FemFessionals, a national networking organization with branches in every major city. Chef Jacquie is the owner/operator of Taste4Travel, a culinary tour company. She is also a regular contributor to Cucina Chatter.
Every episode of Cucina Chatter is packed with info and entertainment, including, but not limited to, the cast of regular characters. This week, you’ll hear Jim Vanore on Good Writers Block discuss the busy life of seniors. Our Wellness Warrior Michele Paiva will offer pointed advice about neck issues. Paul Perrello is serving up a cup of witches’ brew with Lara Parker (Angelique in “Dark Shadows” circa 1960), and Dominic Condo is grilling quesadilla.
North Wildwood Beach Writers’ Conference director Carolyn Mee will give us a report from the conference’s green room. And we’ll talk to Paola of Bravo Pizza who prepared a fabulous meal and sent it to the studio.
Mangia & Enjoy!

 <itunes:summary>Marcus Tullius Cicero
Classical education is making a comeback and joining Cucina Chatter to discuss it is a local man who helped to found a private school that practices the Classical approach. Jim Coffee introduces the Philadelphia region’s Regina Academies and explains how similar schools are being launched across the country. For information on how to launch a private school in the classical discipline, Jim recommends starting with NAPCIS.
On the school theme, Jim Vanore discusses bullying. What do you think about the Cherry Hill, New Jersey case where a Special Ed teacher was caught on tape berating an autistic child?
Rhonda Fink Whitman has some advice about sunscreen and Lorraine disagrees a bit. So does wellness warrior, Michele Paiva. Ah, just a typical kitchen table discussion!
This week’s Cucina Chatter features a new cast member. Philadelphia’s newsman, Paul Perrello, will file each week “A Cup of Espresso with Paul.” You will be treated to snippets of his fabulous interviews with celebs and news makers. This week he drinks espresso with Emily Blunt who dishes on a recent co-star.
We discuss many topics at the kitchen table but the conversation always comes back to food…
Mamma's Pepperonata
In the Upstairs Kitchen, the ever competitive Una Mamma Italiana takes one of Dominic Condo’s favorite recipes and adds a trendy twist. Find out what the Mamma does to create Trendy Pepperonata.
Focus on Philly highlights Strides for Stroke, a 5K run supporting stroke survivors. Toby Mazer, event and organization founder, takes time from a day filled with offering free stroke screening to speak with Lorraine. This year’s run is Sunday, June 10, 7:00am, beginning at the Philadelphia Art Museum. Even if you do not plan to run, come out for a free stroke screening.
Finally, get ready for the annual North Wildwood Beach Writers’ Conference with conference organizer Carolyn Mee. She’ll drop in each week in May to highlight a conference presenter.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year but Fats Domino has yet to be recognized in Cleveland. SMH! There are many other musicians and performers from Rock and Roll’s formative years who also have yet to be inducted.
Philadelphia’s illustrious newsman, Paul Perrello, helps me unravel this and other conundrums on this weeks radio program. (Podcast below)
When I invited Danny Cedrone’s grandson onto this week’s show, I had no idea how much I’d learn about the Hall of Fame. With a tenacious advocate, anyone can be inducted. Without an advocate, artists might never get the props they deserve.
Danny Cedrone was a session guitarist. His famous solo is the one heard on Bill Haley’s “Rock Around The Clock.” The song, and Cedrone, predate the Comets. And if not for an advocate, Cedrone’s brilliance might have faded into history for he passed before the smash hit record was released. He was just 33. The music, literally and figuratively, died in the Cedrone family along with Danny.
Danny’s grandson, Dan Vanore, brought the music back some twenty years after Cedrone’s passing. The younger Dan never knew his grandfather but certainly heard plenty of wonderful stories and he shares them on Cucina Chatter. Dan Vanore picked up where his grandfather left off, playing music for crowds up and down the eastern seaboard and where ever they are called.
Dan also happens to be the cousin of our beloved Jim Vanore, author, story teller, and keeper of Good Writer’s Block. On this week’s show, Jim addresses the significance of a name. Unlike many athletes, fortunately, Jim ultimately decides to keep his own name.

Though Chef Jacquie returned from Mexico almost a month ago, mentally and culinarily (I just coined a new word), she is still there. Our culinary tour guide will take us into the pit of an avocado and more. With Cinco de Mayo around the corner, it’s fitting that she remains in the mood.
From spicy Mexican food to hot heads, Wellness Warrior Michele Paiva of Power Yoga Spa will educate us about the heat behind the hot head and how to cool it down!
Dominic Condo was recently filmed in the Upstairs Kitchen! How exciting is that. Now you get to see our creative foodie in action. Just click here, and please share. Love the concept of “Doing Time with Dan.” We’ll have to get him on Cucina Chatter soon!
This week’s Focus on Philly highlights St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish in South Philadelphia. The parish that was formed to cater to Italian immigrants a hundred years ago is celebrating its centennial, and they’re doing it in fine South Philly fashion with one event after another. Paul and I will speak with Pete Spina of City Rhythm Orchestra and Fr. Nick, the Pastor of St. Nick’s.
On Friday, May 18, the entire Philadelphia community is invited to St. Nick’s for
ITALIAN TRADITIONS FOR THE SENSES: A BOOK, A COOK, & MORE
Paul Perrello, who was married at St. Nick’s, is emceeing the evening. I will offer some humor and sign copies of Gravy Wars: South Philly Foods, Feuds & Attytudes, there will be cooking demos and tastings by Mamma Marie of Passyunk Avenue and Roberta Adamo of Penne Restaurant, and Vivace Dancers teaching The Tarantella! All this entertainment for a mere $5 donation.
Get the lowdown when you listen to the show.
Mangia & Enjoy!

<itunes:summary>Have you noticed lately that rooftops in the region seem to be dirty looking? Ever-changing mold spores are attacking in ways we never dreamed. We may not be able to prove a direct correlation between these attacks and an increase in allergy symptoms, but we can deal with the rooftops. This week’s feature guest on Cucina Chatter is Jerry Cronin of Trinity Roof Cleaning. He’ll open our eyes to the fungus among us.
In a breach of etiquette, Lorraine’s one forbidden kitchen table topic comes up. It’s a brief but necessary mention as we discuss with Jerry what the fungi [and you thought wtf meant something else?] is doing to the US bat population and subsequently how it is affecting our economy. Here are links to some of the numerous articles on the white nose syndrome that’s wiping out bats:
Bat White Nose Syndrome: An Emerging Fungal Pathogen?
Bat Disease Approaches Wisconsin Borders
Bats Rebound in New York Caves First Hit By White Nose
Keep in mind, there are species of bats that are immune to this fungus and are thriving. We are either witnessing evolution or something sinister.

From the peanut gallery:

Jim Vanore opens our eyes, period! That’s his purpose on Good Writers Block.
Keeping in line with the theme of the show, our culinary tour guide, Chef Jacquie, will take us on a Taste4Travel through mushroom country.
Wellness Warrior, Michele Paiva says it’s crunch time… and she’s not talking numbers, she’s talking abs!
In the Upstairs Kitchen, Una Mamma Italiana is making ricotta cheese, salted of course, and she’s serving it up with roasted veggies. Yum!
Finally, live vicariously through our actress/biscotti baker Natalie Stone as she takes us through “A Day in the Glamorous Lfe.” Ya never know where she’ll be or what’s involved!

<itunes:summary>Fabrizio Boschi (Firenze 1572-1642), The Miracle of the Manna, 1594-1597 ca.
Fine art comes to life on the radio this week with special guests Bruce Katsiff, Executive Director of the James A Michener Art Museum, and Dottore Luigi Scotto, the Consul General to Italy. Together they will explain how Philadelphia came to have “Botticelli in our backyards” as they describe the beauty of Offering of the Angels: Treasures from the Uffizi Gallery.
This exhibit of Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces is only making three stops in North America, the first of which is at the Michener Art Museum April 21 through August 10, 2012. What a great way to kick off the summer season and what an excellent road trip to beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania from points north, south, east, and west.
Also on this week’s show: A vocabulary lesson from Jim Vanore of Good Writer’s Block; Rhonda Fink Whitman profiles her forthcoming book 94 Maidens; Chef Jacquie takes us deep into the heart of the artichoke; Dominic Condo walks us from the Upstairs Kitchen to the wine cellar to show us how we don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a good bottle of wine but if you want to splurge….. Dom’s birthday is June 11 and he’d be happy to share with you a glass of wine from the bottle you buy him.

<itunes:summary>Almost a hundred years after it was written, Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People” is still a best seller. It ranks third behind the Bible and the Dictionary in all time best sellers. And for good reason. Carnegie recognized when he began teaching Public Speaking in 1912 the principles that would help hundreds of thousands of people better themselves. Was he writing something that Aristotle, Confucius, Plato, and Socrates missed? Hardly. He just related more effectively to the masses. He, and countless like him, communicate similar self-improvement techniques.
What a bonus I received when I invited a Dale Carnegie trainer on the Cucina Chatter Radio program and she asked to bring a franchise owner, and he showed up with a program graduate! Four of us exchange information and our personal perspective on the Dale Carnegie program. The goal is to offer you encouragement and takeaways that you can implement immediately.
My trio of in-studio guests hung out at the virtual kitchen table to help co-host the remainder of the show as we ventured onto Good Writer’s Block with Jim Vanore, listened to the Rhonda File sent by Rhonda Fink Whitman, and got a Taste4Travel with our culinary tour guide Chef Jacquie.
If you’ve taken a Dale Carnegie course or anything similar, please share your experience, good or bad, with our readers.
Mangia & Enjoy!</itunes:summary>
