<itunes:summary>Shortly after becoming the youngest person to ever win election to the Moorestown, NJ School District, Brandon Pugh accepted my invitation to discuss his feat on Cucina Chatter. I am equally impressed by and hopeful about the emergence of this young leader. Take a look at what he has accomplished so far:

At age 13, made a solo trip to Buenos Aries, Argentina so that he could teach English as a volunteer, and was the Director of Curriculum Development
At age 16, earned his pilot’s license
During his high school career, worked as the lead liaison and coordinator for the New Jersey Governor’s Office of Volunteerism
Instructor for NJ Division of Fire Safety and NJ Office of Emergency Medical Services
Has been educated and trained at The College of New Jersey, Rutgers School of Social Work, United Nations, and Federal Emergency Management Agency
Has been recognized by NJ Governor Christie, President Bush, and President Obama
Received Moorestown Township Outstanding Citizenship Award
Is an EMT
At 19, became the youngest person ever elected to the Moorestown, NJ School Board in a hard-fought victory

Brandon was sworn to his position on the school board earlier this month. He expects to earn his Bachelor’s degree in 2014. To say that Brandon is gifted is an understatement. Click here to read more about Brandon.
We can only hope he will continue on the path of another great statesman…
Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped!

At 5, began studying under his cousin’s tutor.
At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French.
At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages.
At 16, entered the College of William and Mary.
At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.
At 23, started his own law practice.
At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.
At 31, wrote the widely circulated “Summary View of the Rights of British Americaâ and retired from his law practice.
At 32, was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress.
At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence.
At 33, took three years to revise Virginia’s legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom.
At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry.
At 40, served in Congress for two years.
At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams.
At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington.
At 53, served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society.
At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active
head of Republican Party.
At 57, was elected the third president of the United States.
At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation’s size.
At 61, was elected to a second term as President.
At 65, retired to Monticello.
At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine.
At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president.
At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams.

<itunes:summary>For the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, CT
Twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven’s gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy, they didn’t know what to say.
…They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“Where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“This is heaven.” declared a small boy. “We’re spending Christmas at
God’s house.”
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same,
then He opened His arms and He called them by name,
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring.
Those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.”
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below;
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!”
“May this country be delivered from the hands of fools”
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools!”
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“Come now my children, let me show you around.”
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran,
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”
~Written by Cameo Smith, Mt. Wolf, PA
Not much more can be said. The nation celebrates another Christmas with heavy hearts. God bless us all!

Print media is not only alive and well, but also there remains a crop of students hungry for journalistic instruction. Among them are some who want to learn real journalism, not show biz.
Una Mamma Italiana, from the Cucina Chatter Radio show’s “Upstairs Kitchen,” is coaching a group of teens and young adults in their endeavor to produce a magazine on their own, soup to nuts. It’s called Voice of Valor and it’s getting rave reviews.
Una Mamma, aka Tiffany, joined me recently on the show for an extended feature interview to discuss this project. You can hear our chat on the podcast accompanying this post.
